Long Family of Wiltshire

About Me

I am researching the Long family of Exmouth (my maternal maternal great grandmother's family) and have traced them back to Otterton, Devon at the beginning of the 17th century, where the line stops.  Having seen Dan Cruikshank's programme on South Wraxall and the connection with Sir Walter Raleigh, who came from the Exmouth area, I did wonder of there was some connection with the Longs of Wiltshire. The Longs of Exmouth had some connections with the Drake family, related to the Raleighs. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries they are mainly mariners. The probable ancestor I have reached is Nicholas Long, who fathered several children in Otterton in the first decade of the seventeenth century.
