About Me

My name is Kim, I started tracing my family history last year to try and find out why my Irish father had an Indian born grandfather.  My trip to the British Library to get his baptist certificate revealed that his father was called Charles Long of the 67th Regiment.  My trip to Kew for  mititary records advised me Charles came from Great Barton in Suffolk.  Internet research has taken me back to the marriage of James Long and Elizabeth Hutcheon in 1731, but I have yet to find out where James was born and where his relatives originated from.

I am trying to find out if there is a link to the Wiltshire relatives,

About Me

I am a native of Jackson, Mississippi, the American state of which I am seventh-generation born. Before that our Longs migrated to Mississippi from Alabama, Tennessee and the American colony/state of North Carolina, migrating there in the early 1700s in the Albermarle region of North Carolina from Isle of Wight, Virginia, and of course before then, Dracycot, Witshire and South Wraxall Manor, England. Our earliest ancestor denoted was Robertus Longus in Latin as listed in the Domesday Book of England and the family resided on the estate of Chedglow's Hundred, or Chigglewae in old Norman English, one ancestor being the Abbot of Marbury, according to family lore.
